4 simple steps to Start Meditating & Feel Inner Peace
Meditation . Some people just get stressed when they hear this word.
Only because they have tried some techniques and can never seem to sit still with a clear mind.
Let’s be honest, we are not saints at the foot of Himalayas meditating all day long everyday.
These are 5 steps to start with a simple meditation as part of your day.
Set aside a realistic time that you can do it
If you sleep at 1am everyday ,don’t expect yourself to wake up at 4am every morning for your meditation. Be very realistic. At this point all that matters is doing it, you could even do it at 1am in the morning , 10pm at night or even at 12noon. Whatever that works for you and your schedule. Just set aside a specific time in your day for meditation. Try to stick to approximately the same time daily. It’s okay if you skip a day, just get back on to your routine.
Choose a comfortable place
This is an important factor, make sure you are free from distraction especially when you are first starting off. Make sure it is not noisy, smell or distractive in any way. Keep that place clean, calm and sacred. It could be a small nook in your room, in the lawn on your mat, in a corner on your bed anywhere actually. Try to avoid doing any other activities in that special ‘meditation corner ‘. Try to also do your meditation in the same place everyday. Creatures of habit.
Step your timer for 10minutes
You can even get into 20minutes, 45minutes or 90minutes, however long that you want to. But to start off 10minutes will be amazing .
Focus on your breathing
Just start being the observer of your breathing pattern, you don’t have to alter it. Just feel every breath that goes in , fills up your lungs and emptying out. Follow the next breath and next one. When you feel distracted by your thoughts, go back to feeling every breath again.
Ta daa & with consistent practice you will see yourself being more aware, conscious of your thoughts, surroundings and people around you. The list of benefits needs a separate post, of course.
Enjoy your meditation!
Till next time,
