Top 5 habits to boost Happiness
Happiness is something which is very subjective. Someone may attach their happiness to a mug of coffee, their dog, holidays, wealth or even a person that they love.
But how many of your habits improve your mood ?
What do we do daily to ensure that we are always feeling good, despite what our bosses throw at us ?
Below I will list 10 simple things that I do on a daily basis to keep my mood high vibing and to stay happy!
Always, always be grateful.
There may be uncertainties or challenges in your life, but if you really look around you there will be so many things and people to be grateful for , ie the roof over your head, the phone / laptop that you are reading this from , the clean water that you drink and the list goes on.
So everyday , just as I wake up and right before bed I take a moment to look at all the things around me that I am truly grateful for. This not only makes me feel good, also makes me appreciate every little good thing that is going well for me. I believe when you appreciate the small things , you attract more good things into your life.
Always have ONE BIG goal for the day.
I always have a long to-do list and sometimes it makes me feel overwhelmed looking at it, especially if I don’t complete them by the end of the day. That is mainly why recently I have started this practice of prioritising it to ONE only ONE big goal for the day. If I am able to complete this and get to the rest it’s only a bonus. This way I avoid myself from feeling upset, anxious and disappointed with myself. I will push all the small things that I need to get to the consecutive day, especially if they are not urgent.
Always be in the present moment.
Sometimes, I see myself drifting away into the past or dreaming to much about the future and this steals the pleasure of being present. Then I get myself back to the present moment by looking at all the things around me, taking a few deep breaths and coming back to the present. This has always kept me at peace, I usually don’t really worry about what is going to happen at work later, how is that presentation going to be next week or why did someone say that to me. I just leave it at that, maybe I will think about it for a few minutes and when I catch myself drifting away, I always get back to the present moment.
Nurture yourself.
Always take care of yourself, you could engage into any activity that makes you feel good , a short workout , playing with your dog, talking to loved ones and just watching a movie maybe. After a long day, get into the habit of giving yourself what makes you feel good,what keeps your soul going. Why wait till summer , to workout and get that body, you could do 10-15minutes daily and achieve it sooner. Why wait for Christmas to catch up with someone that you love talking to. Do things that make you truly happy.
Read something EVERYDAY.
It could be just 10 minutes or even 5, always get yourself to the habit of reading something new, something that makes you feel good or makes you smile. I sincerely do not recommend reading the news to feel good. Have a book by your night stand and get to reading at least a page everyday, little did you know when you start reading you may go one for 30 minutes or even and hour without you realising. This only widens your knowledge and has so many benefits, to be discussed in consecutive posts.
